| Kiamichi Owa-Chito Festival of the Forest The Kiamichi Owa-Chito Festival of the Forest, a three-day event, is held annually the third weekend in June. This festival is held in Broken Bow at the beautiful Beavers Bend Resort Park. The purpose of Kiamichi Owa-Chito, Inc. is to stage an annual Festival of the Forest in an effort to acquaint the people of Oklahoma and the world with the beauty, heritage, culture, industry and progress in Kiamichi Country. The festival features forestry competitions that bring back memories of "the good old days"! The spirit and heritage of the forest comes to life in the contest of men and women who make their life from the woods. Contests include double buck sawing, pole felling, ax throwing, jack-n-jill crosscut, as well as other forestry events. A "Bull of the Woods" winner is selected from the field each year. A large art show is one of the major components of the festival. Musical entertainment is prevalent throughout the three-day event. Musicians from all areas (gospel, country, jazz and rock-n-roll) keep the crowds entertained. Activities for the youth are also a major component. Kiddie games are also very popular. For more information on the Kiamichi Owa-Chito Festival contact the Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce at 580-584-3393 or www.BrokenBowChamber.com. |

Beavers Bend Folk Festival & Craft Show The Beavers Bend Folk Festival & Craft Show, held the second weekend in November, is a showcase for turn-of-the-century arts and crafts. Almost 70 exhibitors and vendors will feature crafts and skills like candle making, woodturning, lye soap making, knife making and quilting. A mule logging demonstration will educate visitors about the old-time techniques of mule logging. The courtyard of the Forest Heritage Center is a haven for the children. Storytellers spin their yarns; a petting zoo offers up-close and personal encounters with furry critters. The children's activity area will offer kids the opportunity to create a puppet show with their imagination and their own handmade paper puppets. The twang of banjos, the wail of the fiddles and the ring of the dulcimer strings accompany all this. Four of the country's best folk musicians will be featured on an outdoor stage throughout the three-day festival. Free Mountain Dulcimer workshops offered each day in the courtyard. There is always-outstanding food at the Beavers Bend Folk Festival & Craft Show. Food vendors offer items such as pork-o-bobs, chicken tacos, as well as smoked turkey legs, Indian tacos, cowboy tacos, and wrap sandwiches. Long-time Festival favorites like kettle corn, corn dogs, roasted ears of corn and funnel cakes will also tempt visitors. Wash it all down with fresh apple cider or sarsaparilla.
